The Joy of the Start of Football Season

I’m not a perfect person, if that isn’t obvious from some of my posts. Sometimes I get frustrated with other cars out taking their time on the road. Sometimes I get tired and yell at my kids for being loud (well, not Noah, but the other two). Sometimes I yell at the coach when I don’t agree with the play that was called.

Now listen, I probably have twice the football knowledge of your average woman, but about half the football knowledge of your average man. I know when the QB is in shotgun or under center, and I know how many backs are in the backfield. Sometimes I can even tell which is the strong side. I can tell you most of the positions on the team. I sometimes see holding penalties that don’t get called, and I sometimes don’t see holding when it gets called on “us.”

However, I don’t know the plays. I can’t tell you about the intricacies of the game. I hear coaches talk about the game, and the main words I can pick out are the “and’s” and the “the’s.” My brain goes other places it finds more interesting. Then I’m standing there looking stupid with a blank stare. My football understanding is impossibly basic, and in the scheme of this information, very likely so is yours.

I am a football fan, though. And I want to win football games! So, I sit there in the stands, and when things don’t go well, I have been known to yell about the decisions of the coach.

And I’m married to the coach.
