My ankle was popping, and on the other leg, my calf was aching. My arms were sore, and my back was starting to ache. It was hot per the norm, and I had sweated, dried off, and sweated some more.
We stood in a long line smiling and making small talk. Every football player on his daddy’s team was there with a sharpie ready to sign Noah’s poster. We smiled, talked and laughed. Noah spent a lot of time looking at the women’s volleyball team. And the women’s soccer team. They are, after all, his age. And he has always been an unapologetic flirt.
Before we started up the other side, Noah got a signature from his dad, and I leaned in for a quick kiss. It is August camp, and I’ve hardly seen him lately.
Drew stated, “Ya’ll didn’t know I was going to give out kisses to fans?!”
It better have just been me. I am, after all, his biggest fan.
We went up the other side gathering signatures where Noah finally got to interact with all those college girls. Much to my delight, they were as sweet as they were beautiful, and the volleyball players begged me to bring Noah to some games (note to self – look up that schedule).
It was the Mercer Fan Appreciation Day – the first they’ve had in two years, making it the first time since we’ve been in Macon. That night we went to the scrimmage, and the next day, we had three events (one was for my middle boy’s high school team). And you could stick a fork in me, cause I was done.
But I think Noah had the most fun he’s had in a while. So what are a couple of sore legs and a little fatigue? A very small price to pay.

There were so many interesting things to see that while I could easily get him to smile, getting Noah to look at the camera was another whole thing.
